Soul Control - Review
Relish Bank Holiday Sunday 25th May 2008
Review: Marina
The Bank Holiday weekend is here again!! Having gone to Soul Out at Barca the previous night and having an unusual time there, I was one of T2 Bad’s “breeding contempt” lot who went to Relish, an event not to be missed. I've yet to ask T2 Bad if we were at different venues as I wholly disagree with his review of Relish, however having since spoken to T, I’ve realised his head was still at Barca as his long time friend DJ Tiny G was involved in a serious car crash that night, so T might not have been in the right frame of mind!!
On my arrival at Relish I was welcomed by the main man Tony Gordon and on entering the main arena I was glad to see there was a good amount of people in there already.

The music was flowing nicely with DJ Bizzi B spinning the tunes. He came over later on and had a brief chat with his Longsight crew which was nice of him. The tunes being played were so touching, as they were tunes that haven’t been rinsed out in Soul clubs. Yes the Soul masses complain about the music in Manchester, but at Relish on May Bank Holiday Sunday, they played so positively that I hope this can be a turning point for us Manchester Soul-Heads!!!! By now the night was in full swing and DJ Mistri was playing a selection of quality Rare Groove Classics and people were dancing & singing in full flow to the tunes they longed to hear.
DJ Mistri then sent us in another direction and played a wicked mix of Reggae/Calypso and Soca which moved the crowd. May I also add that T2 Bad is a strict Disciple of Soul music and won’t even try to understand anything beyond!! I personally feel that promoter’s will receive a positive response from people in their events if they mix the music well enough. The music vote poll in the Soul Control Meet and Chat section is your best chance to let promoters and DJ’s know what type of music you want to hear on a night out, so if you wish your voice to be heard, please post your vote!!!
DJ Bizzi B came back on after Mistri and played some uplifting music which pleased the crowd. There were many new faces at Relish from outside Manchester, many of whom were down for the Bank Holiday weekend visiting friends and relatives.
Soul Control Verdict:
Relish offers a different experience at each event. On the whole I thought the DJ's played excellent, but it's down to the people as to what they came out for?? Do you come out to enjoy yourselves or not!!
